“I have never been to a gym with such an amazing group of coaches, staff, and members. Every class I have been to I have been greeted with smiles, positive attitudes, and encouragement, it’s truly something special to be a part of.”
How long have you been a member at CrossFit Morgantown?
I have been a member since July 8th, 2020, so just over 6 months.
Why did you join?
The main reason I joined was to help improve my health and fitness. I was always active and athletic growing up, and I thought that was always going to be the case for me. I soon realized not long after high school that daily consumption of pizza, McDonalds, and Oreos was a bad thing for my health, who knew?! After my daughter Cecelia was born in January of 2020 I decided to start taking my health more seriously, and my father-in-law Rob extended the offer a couple times to come check out the gym, eventually I caved in and decided to give it a try and fell in love with it day one.
What do you love most about CrossFit Morgantown? / What keeps you coming back each month?
First and foremost the people. I have never been to a gym with such an amazing group of coaches, staff, and members. Every class I have been to I have been greeted with smiles, positive attitudes, and encouragement, it’s truly something special to be a part of. The second thing would be the challenge of each class. I am a very competitive person, especially with myself. I love checking Wodify every morning and seeing what awful way Jeff plans on torturing me that day and taking it head on. I want to compete every day to be better then what I was yesterday and each workout helps me do that.
“What has shocked me the most is how becoming more physically fit is helping me grow and strengthen myself mentally and spiritually.”
What is your current occupation? And/or what are some hobbies, clubs, groups, or activities you participate in?
I am a maintenance supervisor at an apartment complex here in town called State on Campus. I enjoy anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, hiking. I’m a big sports fan, but I’d say my favorites are basketball, football, and boxing. What I love to do most though is spend time with my family. Besides my faith, my family is the most important thing to me.
Who inspires you?
My wife Rachel. We met in high school when I was only 16. Over the years I have had the honor of watching her grow into a beautiful, talented, and compassionate young woman. She is an amazing wife, and a perfect mother to our daughter. She truly lives out her faith and shows people Jesus Christ in the way she conducts herself, she inspires me to be a better Christian and a better person. I’m truly blessed to have her in my life.
How has improved fitness impacted your life?
I’d say my day to day activity has improved the most. I can climb a set of stairs without getting out of breath, I can get on the floor and play with my daughter Cece without struggling to get back up. I can move furniture and appliances at work without needing to take a break in between. What has shocked me the most is how becoming more physically fit is helping me grow and strengthen myself mentally and spiritually. Being able to push through a tough workout is helping my mental toughness and helping me be more dedicated in my spiritual life. If I can be dedicated enough to go to the gym everyday, I can also be dedicated enough to spend more time in prayer, study, and church related activities.
What’s one thing – either fitness related or not – you learned in the last month?
According to an article in Christianity today, the most searched, read, and bookmarked bible verse of 2020 was Isaiah 41:10. ” Do not fear, I am with you; do not be anxious: I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” In today’s world this is a great verse to keep in mind.
What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try out CFM?
Come and try it! Words don’t quite do justice to what an amazing experience they will have if they come!
