How long have you been a member at CrossFit Morgantown?
I have been a member of CrossFit Morgantown for two years this coming Memorial Day.
Why did you join?
I joined CrossFit Morgantown for two main reasons. I had played many sports throughout my life and to continue to stay active I had been going to a gym for resistance training of my own accord. I attained the results I had been after over the years, however this type of training came with plateaus for me. I was interested in trying CrossFit for a couple of years but always had my doubts and anxiety about the type of training. I was “that guy” that looked at CrossFit with a mindset that I would lose all of my “gains”, I would get injured frequently, and I didn’t want to be one of “those guys” with crazy form a.k.a. kipping movements. So one day I was at a networking event and CrossFit came up in conversation between some friends and I. With the current plateaus and monotonous training I was doing weighing on my mind, I did not know it but at that very moment I started my CrossFit journey. The biggest reason and motivation to finally try CrossFit was because I cannot tell Lauren DeWitt no, and she was part of that conversation and asked me to come and try out CrossFit Morgantown. I showed up at 4 p.m. the Friday before Memorial Day and have not been back to my previous gym.
What do you love most about CFM? / What keeps you coming back each month?
What I love most about CrossFit Morgantown is the community! I can exercise anywhere, I can find weights anywhere, I can find people with similar fitness interests and goals anywhere. What I cannot find anywhere is the community at CrossFit Morgantown. The community is so accommodating, supportive, and uplifting to me. They make the hour or so I spend there each day, the best part of my day! The community also impacts so many people and so many things outside the walls of CrossFit Morgantown, which is truly a testament to the type of community it is. The people, with the bonus of fitness, is what keeps me coming back day after day.

4) What is your current occupation? And/or what are some hobbies, clubs, groups, or activities you participate in?
I own several small businesses across a variety of industries, however most of my energy is devoted to ProTex, llc in Morgantown. We are an electronic security and life safety systems company specializing in various services such as intrusion security systems, surveillance cameras, building access control, audio visual / theater and sound systems, commercial fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and several life safety inspection services. Through the years I personally found myself a statistic to a home fire, a home invasion, and a burglary. So I have a great deal of passion and reward from helping and protecting others through the use of technology.
5) Who inspires you?
It is rare that I am inspired from someone. Rather, the moments that I gain the most inspiration are when I am uncomfortable. When I am uncomfortable mentally, physically, or emotionally is when I excel and when inspiration is truly copious.
6) How has improved fitness impacted your life?
Improved fitness has impacted my life by not only maintaining a synergy of my mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies, but the opportunities it has afforded me are numerous. I love to travel frequently and an example of how improved fitness has impacted me is the ability to experience many activities and excursions that are physically demanding during these travels. I am very thankful for the memories these opportunities create.
7) What’s one thing – either fitness related or not – you learned in the last month?
Over the last month I have learned, more so than ever, that things change. People change, places change, and things change. What was yesterday may not be today, so enjoy the ride but don’t be complacent. I have always felt that nothing stays the same and you are either evolving or going backwards, nobody simply exists.
8) What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try out CFM?
If I was discussing to a loved one the idea of trying CrossFit Morgantown, I would mention to them how every workout can be tailored to their skill level, the different class time offerings can fit their schedule, the members will make sure they are successful and accept them as an equal. The gym environment may seem intimidating to some, but give it one class and you will see that the feeling will quickly go away and all the different ages and walks of life that you will encounter are on different journeys and you are no different.
