“I haven’t taken medicine for almost 5 years.  CrossFit Morgantown IS my medicine.”

How long have you been a member at CrossFit Morgantown?

Over 5 years?

Why did you join?

I needed a lifestyle change.  I had stopped doing traditional workouts and started enjoying food more.  I remember going to a 24 hour gym to try to start getting back in shape.  I hadn’t stepped on a scale for months but I knew I had to suck in to button my pants! I got onto the scale and I weighed 30lbs more than my current weight.  I needed motivation to get back into shape.

What do you love most about CFM? / What keeps you coming back each month?

The community. Everyone  is so supportive and there is nothing that motivates me more to push than being surrounded by everyone else pushing hard. I think most times I would quit if I didn’t see everyone around me pushing forward!

“Find a fitness routine that makes you healthy, that you enjoy doing, and that gives you a community of like-minded, supportive people.”

4)  What is your current occupation? And/or what are some hobbies, clubs, groups, or activities you participate in?

I am a dentist and part of the Morgantown Dental Group. In my free time I enjoy CrossFit, traveling with my fiance Danica, hanging out with my kids, and attending Chestnut Ridge Church.

5)  Who inspires you?

I guess lots of people have inspired me at times and for moments.  Jesus is my ultimate motivator.  Life is kind of pointless without knowing there is something more out there to live for than just this brief moment in the scope of eternity.

6)  How has improved fitness impacted your life?

Crossfit is my physical and mental therapy.  Prior to starting, not only did I gain weight but I was also taking medications to help my anxiety and depression. When I started losing weight and started getting fit, I also decided I didn’t need medication to be “normal”.  I haven’t taken medicine for almost 5 years.  CrossFit Morgantown IS my medicine.  It doesn’t matter what the day has presented, when I workout, the stresses of life fade away.

7)  What’s one thing – either fitness related or not – you learned in the last month?

We started doing something called “Level Method” which assesses our current strengths and weaknesses and helps us to work on them. The Level assessment was amazing.  It’s difficult to stay motivated day after day for 5 years to workout!  I need short term goals and having the assessment has allowed me to identify weaknesses.  Now I know what I need to work on for the next 4 months!

8)  What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try out CFM?

I hope this answer is okay because it isn’t just about CrossFit but it is what I have found at Crossfit Morgantown. Find what makes you healthy and happy. Fitness and a healthy lifestyle are so important in so many aspects of our lives. To feel good, to live well, to have a high quality of long life, and to give back energy and time to those we love and care about. Fitness takes on many different shapes and forms. So find a fitness routine that makes you healthy, that you enjoy doing, and that gives you a community of like-minded, supportive people. Crossfit Morgantown isn’t the only way to do that, but it IS the way I have chosen to do that for the last 5 years of my life.
