How long have you been a member at Community Fitness of Morgantown?

A little over 2 years.  I joined in June 2018.

 

Why did you join?

 In 2018 I was working with a professional/life coach and during my intake session, one of the first things out of his mouth was “you really need to do CrossFit”.  I took his advice and the rest is history.

 

What do you love most about Community Fitness of Morgantown? / What keeps you coming back each month?

The coaches, the community, and of course the workouts.  I have learned so much about myself – both physically and mentally.  The desire to make myself better on both fronts keeps me coming back.  Fitness/Exercising/Working Out can be such a one-dimensional activity (let’s burn calories and be thin!), but Jeff and Sarah have created an environment making what we do so much more than that.

What is your current occupation? And/or what are some hobbies, clubs, groups, or activities you participate in?   

I am a VP of Commercial Banking for the WVA Region at Huntington Banks.   I serve on the Parish Finance Council at St Francis de Sales Catholic Church and last year I was one of the Campaign Chairs for the United Way of Mon and Preston Counties 2020 Campaign.  Morgantown is an extremely generous community.  As for hobbies, I love to travel with my daughter.   Having the opportunity to spend time with her and experience the world through her eyes is pretty incredible.   

 

Who inspires you?

My daughter, from day one, has been my biggest inspiration.  She is confident, out-going and naive in the best possible way.   The world has beat me down a time or two (as it does all of us), but she reminds me that the glass isn’t always half-empty.

 

How has improved fitness impacted your life? 

Fitness is therapy for me.  Getting to the gym and working out provides structure and sets a positive tone for the rest of my day.  The mental gains are just as important as the physical ones for me.  

 

What’s one thing – either fitness related or not – you learned in the last month?

I had to “re-learn” about letting things go that no longer serve me.  So many times we find ourselves holding onto jobs, relationships or whatever for all the wrong reasons.   Things or situations that we thought made us happy can often be the exact source of dissatisfaction, stress or unhappiness.  Figuring it out is hard and making the necessary changes can be uncomfortable, but just about always leads you to a better place.  

 

What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try out CFM? 

Take every stereotype of CrossFit and erase it from your brain.  CFM is more than a gym – it’s a community that welcomes and encourages everyone no matter your age, goals, or fitness level.  You want to have more energy? Join CFM.  You want to have more energy playing with your kids or grandkids?  Join CFM.  Looking for a group of people to help build you up? Join CFM.  I only wish I has found it sooner!
