How long have you been a member at CrossFit Morgantown?

I’ve been a member at CrossFit Morgantown since March 2019.

Why did you join?

I joined because after nearly 10 years of being a long-distance runner, the lack of strength work was starting to catch up with me. I could run for hours at a time but walking up and down steps and just lifting my leg to get into the car was difficult some days.

What do you love most about CrossFit Morgantown? / What keeps you coming back each month?

I love the fact that CFM is so many things to so many different people. Community, social hour, mental health, physical health, pushing limits, conditioning for work for military and first responders, family health, etc. What keeps me coming back is seeing how attention to the basics leads to progress over time. One percent better every day adds up to huge gains over time.

What is your current occupation? And/or what are some hobbies, clubs, groups, or activities you participate in?

I work as a toxicologist at Viatris. I do work to ensure our products are safe. Outside of work I enjoy running and CrossFit, gardening and cooking as well as volunteering at Chestnut Ridge Church.

Who inspires you?

Older athletes. Seeing athletes that are 5, 10 even 20 years older than me and still moving every day is inspiring to me. I want to be able to be active well into my retirement and see what fun things I might be able to do with fitness.

How has improved fitness impacted your life?

I can see all the time how the functional fitness of CrossFit carries over into the ability to perform everyday tasks, even as simple as walking up and down steps. Also, since my 74-year-old dad has recently moved in with us, I notice the things that he is currently unable to do and how CrossFit could remedy some of that (we’re currently working on that).

What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try out CFM?

Don’t be afraid to take that first step through the door. The staff and coaches at CFM will make sure that workouts are appropriately modified for you to be able to do them safely and effectively. Give it just a little time and I’m certain you will see how it improves your everyday life.
