How long have you been a member at Community Fitness of Morgantown?
A little over a year.
Why did you join?
I had a few friends that were members and they eventually convinced me to give it try. I took them up on that offer and attended one class. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly, and the workout kicked my butt! I loved every minute of it and signed up right after class. I had been working out at home for years by myself and struggled to stay motivated and really see any results. The experience and challenge from that one class was exactly what I needed.
What do you love most about Community Fitness of Morgantown? / What keeps you coming back each month?
I love everything about CFM! The community, the coaching, the coaches, and the variation in workouts. We rarely do the same workout twice and I look forward to and enjoy having a new unique challenge every day. The decision to join was one of the best decisions I have made in a while. I go 5-6 days a week and wake up each morning eager to see what the workout is. What is your current occupation? And/or what are some hobbies, clubs, groups, or activities you participate in?
I am a sales professional by day and when I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family (I’m married with two young girls, Sophie (7) and Maddie (4)), working out at CFM, and playing golf.
Who inspires you?
I would say not one person in particular, but those people who are able to enjoy a well-balanced life of maximizing family time while having successful careers doing something they are passionate about and genuinely enjoy doing.
How has improved fitness impacted your life?
With two high energy young girls, I need to have a lot of stamina and energy to keep up with them. Since joining CFM, not only am I physically stronger and able to keep up with them more, I have also started to focus on what I do outside the gym to improve my overall daily performance. Things like stretching/mobility, what I eat, getting more sleep and meditating. The whole package has me feeling more energized and able to enjoy on all the small moments throughout the day with my family and friends in addition to improving my recovery time and performing better at the gym.
What’s one thing – either fitness related or not – you learned in the last month?
During the COVID pandemic I have been learning how to mediate. I have realized I can utilize it for all kinds of purposes. Relaxation, increased focus, de-stressing, sleep, etc. Since starting, the biggest change for me is the ability to live in the present and enjoy more of the small moments in life throughout the day. In the past I usually was distracted by looking ahead to what is next vs focusing on what is happening right in front of me. This has caused me to miss out on a lot and I’m working hard to not let this continue to happen.
What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try out CFM?
I would say don’t knock it until you try it. Forget about all the stigmas around CrossFit style workouts/group workouts and give it a try. It is 100% customizable for all ages and capabilities. ANYONE can do it and get from it what they desire. That is what I did and I only wish I would have done it years ago.
