How long have you been a member at CrossFit Morgantown?

I’ve been a member since April, 2019.

 

Why did you join?

I joined because I was a new mom needing some sort of fitness routine and community involvement.  I had always worked out, either in a gym or at home, but I felt very isolated and not as challenged as I wanted to be.  My husband, Jason, is a member of CFM, and he encouraged me to try out a few classes.

 

What do you love most about CrossFit Morgantown? / What keeps you coming back each month?

There are so many wonderful things that I love about CFM.  I’ve always loved the daily change and challenge of programming.  The knowledge, encouragement, and overall positive vibes make a huge difference in wanting to continue showing up every day.  I’ve also found an amazing mom tribe at CFM, and for that, I’m incredibly grateful.  For the first time in my life, I feel like I’m happy with the person I am, inside and out, and I attribute that a lot to CFM and the confidence it’s given me.

What is your current occupation? And/or what are some hobbies, clubs, groups, or activities you participate in?   

I have a Masters in Speech Pathology and have worked in several school districts in the state.  Currently, I’m a stay at home mom with my two, beautiful and energetic boys, Jacob and Austin, and am working on my real estate license coursework.  I plan to begin working with J.S. Walker & Associates in the beginning of the new year.

I love working out, riding a motorcycle with my husband, cooking, and having dinner with friends.

 

Who inspires you?

Not to sound cliché, but my husband, Jason, inspires me every single day.  He works a very demanding engineering job in the oil and gas industry that requires him to be on call and available 24/7.  He never misses a workout, when he’s not working a night shift, and he always helps me with the boys the moment he walks in the door without a complaint or negative attitude.  He works so hard to provide for his family and is incredibly dedicated to his job and family.  Our boys adore him and are his biggest fans.

I’d say that all of the moms at CFM inspire me, as well.  We truly have an incredible group of moms, young and old, that care about each other and lift each other up.  It’s hard to find women these days that help fix each other’s crowns, but at CFM, I know that I can always find a shoulder to lean on after a hard day with my boys. We have some tough and strong as hell women, too!

 

How has improved fitness impacted your life?

Improved fitness has impacted my life in so many ways, but I’d have to say that it’s allowed me to actually live and enjoy moments that I used to take for granted instead of stress and have anxiety.  I’m an eating disorder survivor as well as a postpartum depression survivor, and I believe that focusing on my overall health and wellness has saved my life.  I used to be such a sad, lonely, and anxious person, and I no longer feel like those things have control over me.

 

What’s one thing – either fitness related or not – you learned in the last month?

I’m learning to roll with things more and more.  I bet most would say that 2020 has been an awful year, but personally, I feel like it’s been an amazing year of personal growth.  I’ve learned to do things and surround myself with people that bring me joy; I’ve learned to roll with anything that comes my way, instead of trying to control the uncontrollable.  I’ve also learned that my two little boys are so special and unique in their own little ways, and I appreciate them more for their individuality.

 

What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try out CFM? 

I’d tell them to just give it one class. I believe that one class is all you need to feel the love and support that the community at CFM can bring to your life.  Who doesn’t love to fitness with their friends?! 🙂
