How long have you been a member at Community Fitness of Morgantown?

About 2 years. I live about 40 minutes from the gym so I attend when I can!

 

Why did you join?

I was a group fitness instructor for several years but never tried CrossFit. I was working in my cubicle one afternoon when my friend/co-worker Matt Kelly came over to me and told me that I need to come try a class at Community Fitness of Morgantown. The next morning I went to the 6:30am class with Matt before work. It was much different than I expected. I loved it! Everyone was very welcoming and struck up conversations during the warm-up. The coach thoroughly reviewed the movements. The music was loud and energizing. The workout was intense and fun! Jokes, laughs, and fist bumps were had by all. The overall experience was exactly what I needed to start my day. I was instantly hooked!

 

What do you love most about Community Fitness of Morgantown? / What keeps you coming back each month?

The coaches! I have a massive amount of respect for their dedication to fitness as well as the CFM members! In the past two years, I’ve been able to attend classes with 7 different CFM coaches. I have learned so much from each coach. They are incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and fun. Each coach brings their own unique style, energy, and humor to their classes. I’ve had other gym memberships in the past and none of them compare to CFM coaches. They really go above and beyond to connect with the members. They are beside us shouting encouragement when we struggle, and celebrate with us when we get that PR! They genuinely care and I’ve formed great friendships with the coaches. During this pandemic, we had 8+ weeks of virtual Zoom classes. If I was unable to attend a Zoom class time, I would do the workout later in the day. Without the coach and the members, it’s a whole different vibe!

 

I’ve had other gym memberships in the past and none of them compare to Community Fitness of Morgantown coaches. They really go above and beyond to connect with the members.

 

What is your current occupation? And/or what are some hobbies, clubs, groups, or activities you participate in?   

I own a Photography and Web Design business, Design By Aly. I have been riding horses since I was a kid and compete in AQHA. I’m also involved in the haunt industry where I operate/manage haunted attractions, train actors, and teach seminars at trade shows across the country.

 

How has improved fitness impacted your life? 

Improved fitness has certainly contributed to success in riding and showing. The CFM programming has helped build strength, endurance, and mobility. To hold and shape a horse’s body takes an incredible amount of strength. We train our horses 1-2 hours each session and it can become very tiring on the body. At shows we ride all day for several days!

 

What’s one thing – either fitness related or not – you learned in the last month?

I am someone that is always on the go, my schedule is packed from sun up to sun down. During this time of COVID-19, I’ve learned to dial back and appreciate the simple things. I thought I was going to have a lot of anxiety during this stay at home order, and I’ve had some, but it has taught me to slow down. I’ve been happier than I felt in months just from being able to spend time with my family, worship, and really reconnect with myself.

 

What would you say to someone you love to encourage them to try out CFM? 

I recommend Community Fitness of Morgantown to everyone I know. Sarah, Jeff, and the rest of the staff have done a phenomenal job at combining a professional gym with a community of members that feel like a second family. The coaches are fantastic. The programming has such a variety that it’s exciting to learn and practice a different workout every day. There are modifications for any age and fitness level. The members are friendly, encouraging, and supportive. They hold community events, activities, and nutrition seminars! During COVID, they even held virtual game nights! What more can I say?! This gym has everything you’ve always wanted!! No other gym compares.
